Granite has two distinctive issues that need to be addressed if you want to ensure that it last a lifetime or longer. Firstly it is prone to stains. The only real way to ensure that you don’t end up with stained granite is to seal it properly. Sealing granite is standard procedure and whereever you decide to buy your granite, you are probably going to be buying it already sealed, but in the event that you purchase it raw, this is something you will have to have done and it is vital to have it done by a professional.
The other factor to take into consideration is that your granite is going to, over time, loose it’s shine. Having your granite shined from time to time is good for it’s overall health and appearance. Shining shouldn’t have to be done often, but if you are using abrasive chemicals on it regularly for cleaning, then you definately will have to do it more often.
Sealing your granite will ensure that it lasts for decades to come.
