There are a huge variety of colors and designs to choose from when considering your granite kitchen.  From gold through greens and blues from small speckled to large, you are likely to find yourself with a huge selection of different options.

What exactly is granite?

Granite is a form of igneous rock which was created out of magna.  Magma or volcanic rock is very dense and hard and due to the extreme heat and pressure impacted on the magma, granite is formed.

Many homeowners will choose to only include a small amount of granite in their design utilizing it as a splashback or tiles around the sink, while a granite sink is also a very popular option.  But why do so many people choose granite for their kitchens in the first place?

Primarily for it’s beauty!  Granite has a luminescent ability to hold and reflect light simultaneously and while it is so beautiful, it is also incredibly durable and rare.  Granite is ageless and will bring a certain element of class to any home and any style.  With such a wide variety of colors to choose from, you will find the right one for you and in addition to color, knowing that each slab is unique makes it all that more precious.

Once you have found your perfect granite for your kitchen, be it countertop or sink, backsplash or tiles, you will want to ensure that you care for your granite to ensure that it remains in the best condition possible.

Granite is fare more dense than other hard stones such as marble, so it won’t have the same problems that marble might face.  Having said that, it is still a precious stone and will need some care.  You will want to ensure that it does not stain is this is one of the features of granite – it does stain easily, so keeping your granite sealed is the only real way to ensure that this doesn’t happen.

Another feature of granite is that it may over time loose it’s shine.  If this happens, you will want to bring in an expert to reshine it.  This is not a problem and will give you years of enjoyment before you need to bring in a shiner.
